REVENUE have seized €51,000 worth of drugs at Shannon Airport today as part of an ongoing investigation into the illegal importation of drugs.
After conducting some routine operations Revenue officers seized two packages containing Kratom in the form of both loose powder and vacuum packed blocks.
The first package with Kratom powder inside contained over 0.5kg of the controlled drug and had an estimated value of €10,400.
It originated in Austria and was addressed to somewhere in Tipperary.
The second package containing two 1kg vacuum packed blocks of Kratom had an estimated value of €40,600.
This package originated in Luxembourg and was addressed to Mayo.
This operation is part of Revenue’s continued work targeting the illegal importation of drugs.
Earlier this month, a lorry driver was arrested after Revenue seized €6.2million worth of drugs concealed in water cylinders at Dublin Port.
Officers found 93 kilos of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €1.9million and 62 kilos of cocaine with an estimated value of €4.3million as part of routine profiling at the port.

The drugs that were found were in a curtain-sided trailer which had arrived from the Netherlands.
Investigations are ongoing and Revenue are appealing to any businesses or members of the public with information regarding the smuggling to come forward.
