    MANHATTAN, IL — Manhattan’s newest business, South Side Tobacco and Vape, will hold its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony Nov. 18, the village said.

    The tobacco and vape store, 24520 S. US 52, is already open to the public, and sells vaping products, CBD products, kratom, smoking accessories and cigars, according to its Facebook page.

    At the grand opening, owner Scott Coveny will give a tour of his business and discuss the different products he sells.

    In Pontianak, the capital of the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan, farmers and sellers sometimes ship hundreds of tons of kratom a month, Bloomberg previously reported. Kratom is native to Indonesia and several other southeast Asian countries, but Indonesia’s kratom-friendly laws have made it a global hub.

    Out of all the kratom that passes through Pontianak, 95 percent goes to the US, AFP reports. And despite the FDA issuing “import alerts” giving US authorities permission to seize international kratom shipments in 2012 and 2014, kratom is still flowing into the US in pretty major quantities.

    A group home worker is accused of letting a man with Down syndrome die in a hot van.WFTS reports Joshua Russell, with Crossroads of Pinellas in Florida, was driving 35-year-old John Lapointe back to the group home.The incident happened back in May.     LAFAYETTE — Police found a package of ground, dull colored plants with hues of gray, yellow and a hint of green during an investigation early Thursday.

    It was kratom.
